FAQs

How different is this from polyester fiberglass resin?

J-B Weld Fiberglass Resin will give you overall the same performance as other polyester or laminating resins.

Will this work with polyester liquid hardener?

Yes, J-B Weld Fiberglass Resin will work with any MEKP-type liquid hardener.

How much liquid hardener should I user?

Use the mixing guidelines on the instructions for the Fiberglass Resin. About 6-8 drops per fl oz of resin. Or, if weighing the material, use about 1g of hardener per 100g of resin.

Will this work with polyester Fiberglass Cloth or Mat?

Yes, J-B Weld Fiberglass Resin will work with any cloth or mat that is used with polyester resins.

Can Fiberglass Resin work without the Cloth or Mat?

Only for very minor surface imperfection repair, otherwise not recommended.

How do I prepare the surface for Fiberglass Resin?

You should clean the surface with degreasing cleaner, then sand with 80 grit sandpaper (or lower), and then wipe clean with a solvent (such as acetone).

What surfaces will Fiberglass Resin not work well on?

Fiberglass Resin will not work on low-surface-energy plastics, such as polyethylene and polypropylene. We also can't guarantee that Fiberglass Resin will work over painted surfaces, so we recommend sanding off paint before applying the putty to surface.

Why did Fiberglass Resin not adhere to the surface?

Likely because the surface preparation was not performed properly (see question about surface preparation above).

Why is my Fiberglass Resin curing so quickly?

Adding too much liquid hardener can cause the product to cure quickly. Additionally, heat and warm climates can accelerate the cure, so if the application environment is hot, expect the material to cure faster.

How do I remove Fiberglass Resin from a surface?

If the resin has not cured, use a solvent such as acetone to clean from the surface. If the resin has cured, sand or grind the resin off surface.

Is Fiberglass Resin available in gallons?

Yes

What is the storage temperature of Fiberglass Resin?

Between 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Store indoors only.

Can Fiberglass Resin be mixed with coloring agents?

Yes, but only with agents compatible with polyester resins. Do not use water-based coloring agents. Check with the coloring agent manufacturer if unsure before use.

Can a thickening agent be used with Fiberglass Resin?

Yes, but only with agents compatible with polyester resins. Check with the thickening agent manufacturer if unsure before use.
