FAQs

How different is this from polyester Body Filler?

J-B Weld Body Filler will give you overall similar performance as other polyester Body Filler, but J-B Weld Body Filler is non-staining, meaning that lacquer or enamel basecoats and clearcoats can be used over it, without those paints getting discolored. Additionally, J-B Weld Body Filler will clog sandpaper less than other Body Filler, and has extended working time.

Will this work with polyester cream hardener?

Yes, J-B Weld Body Filler will work with any cream hardeners for polyester putties (also known as BPO cream hardener), and with any cream hardener colors (red, blue or white).

How much cream hardener should I user?

Lay down a bead of hardener across the diameter of the putty you have scooped out. If you want to weigh it, the ratio of putty to hardener is 50:1 by weight.

How do I prepare the surface for Body Filler?

You should clean the surface with degreasing cleaner, then sand with 80 grit sandpaper (or lower), and then wipe clean with a solvent (such as acetone).

What surfaces will Body Filler not work well on?

Body Filler will not work on low-surface-energy plastics, such as polyethylene and polypropylene. We also can't guarantee that Body Filler will work over painted surfaces, so we recommend sanding off paint before applying Body Filler to surface.

Why did Body Filler not adhere to the surface?

Likely because the surface preparation was not performed properly (see question about surface preparation above).

Why do I have pinholes in the Body Filler?

Pinholes result from trapped air, which comes from improper mixing of the filler, or from applying the filler too thick.

Why is my Body Filler curing so quickly?

Adding too much cream hardener can cause the product to cure quickly. Additionally, heat and warm climates can accelerate the cure, so if the application environment is hot, expect the material to cure faster.

How do I remove Body Filler from a surface?

If the Body Filler has not cured, use a putty knife or similar tool to scrape the filler from the surface. If the Body Filler has cured, sand the putty down, and then use a heat gun to soften remaining material to scrap off with a putty knife or similar tool.

Is the Body Filler available in gallons?

Yes

What is the storage temperature of Body Filler?

Between 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Store Body Filler indoors only.

Can Body Filler be thinned down with solvent?

We do not recommend thinning Body Filler down with any material.
